Introduction
By distinguishing whether he is expressing a wish or judging you, and by clearly naming one thing as different from the other. Your feet do not have to be “good enough”. They are your feet, and for a man who loves you, that is precisely why they are attractive. If his remarks still strike you as criticism, it is important to talk about it. I am writing this text as a man with a fetish, but for you as the female partner.

A wish or a judgement?
Not every remark about feet or shoes is meant as criticism. A sentence such as “I find it nice when you wear these shoes” is a wish, perhaps even a compliment. By contrast, a sentence such as “Your toes are too long” or “You should get a pedicure again” is a judgement. It turns your body into something that is supposed to be improved.
Often, there is a grey area in between. Perhaps he does not say anything directly, but he stares conspicuously, compares, or raves about feet that look completely different from yours. That, too, can feel like criticism, even if he does not mean it that way.

Why feet are so sensitive
Many women already view their own bodies critically, and feet are often among the parts they struggle with most. Too big, too wide, too bony, not beautiful enough. When this particular part of the body is sexualised, attention can quickly feel like an examination. Instead of feeling desired, you then feel that you have to meet an additional requirement.

There is no such thing as the “perfect” foot
Many female partners believe that a man with a foot fetish has a fixed ideal that they must live up to. In reality, preferences vary greatly. Some find a particular shape arousing; others are drawn to movement, care, skin, or precisely to what is natural and imperfect. There is therefore no standard by which all feet are measured.
And in my experience, for many men it is not about feet in general anyway, but about the feet of the woman they love. A fetish works through a fantasy, and in that fantasy, ideally, you play the leading role.

What a man with a fetish should bear in mind
I explicitly advise a man with a foot fetish to keep to himself details that his female partner cannot fulfil. She cannot change a shoe size, the shape of her toes, or the condition of her skin. Anyone who brings up such things only makes her feel inadequate. Comparisons with other women or celebrities are a no-go in a relationship anyway.
If your partner does not observe this, you may point it out to him. That is not oversensitivity, but a legitimate boundary.

How you can bring it up
Choose a calm moment for it, not directly after a hurtful remark and not in the middle of sex. A few sentences can help you raise the subject without immediately starting an argument:
Feel free to ask him, too, what he actually likes about your feet. The answer surprises some women because it often has much more to do with them as people than they had expected.
Pay attention to whether he understands you and changes something in his response. A partner who loves you will not want you to feel uncomfortable in your body.
- “When you talk about my feet like that, I feel judged, not desired.”
- “I want to feel that you like my feet as they are.”
- “I am happy to get a pedicure or wear nail polish when I feel like it, but not because you expect it.”
- “Please do not compare me with other women.”

Your body is not a project
Caring for your feet, wearing nice shoes, trying nail polish: all of this can be fun and a lovely game between the two of you. But only if it comes from you. Being open to his fetish is an invitation, not an obligation. You do not have to optimise anything to be loved.

If the insecurity remains
Sometimes insecurity about your own body runs deeper and extends far beyond the fetish. If you notice that thoughts about your appearance are weighing heavily on you, speaking with a psychotherapist can help. You would then be doing that for yourself, not for him.
